    Pegasus Pipes & Drums

    Who are we?

Pegasus Pipes & Drums is a pipeband according to Scottish tradition. The band was founded in 2001 in Voorthuizen, the Netherlands (Municipality of Barneveld), with the goal to musically guide the commemorations of historic events from the Second World War in the Barneveld region. Events such as the commemorations regarding Operation Market Garden.

The band has performed at beautiful events during the past few years. Performances such as the yearly performances in Normandy, France, for the commemorations of D-Day, the yearly performances in Ede and Oosterbeek, the Netherlands, during the commemorations for the battle of Arnhem and the yearly performances during the Liberation Parade in Wageningen, the Netherlands.

Apart from these military tinted performances the band also performs at other events. The band is for example a well-known guest in Germany during the Musik Parade. The band also performes during tattoos, Flower Parades, weddings, funerals, anniversaries and it also performed during the Crowning Ball of André Rieu on the Museumplein in Amsterdam.

    Uniforms

During official performances, the Pipers and Drummers of Pegasus go dressed in the Full Dress uniform, with Feather Bonnet. Besides the Full Dress uniform, the band has another uniform at its disposal, the Day Dress uniform. With the Full Dress and the Day Dress uniform, the band wears the well-known Scottish Kilt with a Tartan from the old Royal House of Scotland, the Royal Stewart.

The music consists of traditional and modern Scottish and Irish songs.

    Pegasus

The name of the band originates from the Greek mythology. Within the mythology, there is a story of a horse called Pegasus with the worrier Bellerophon. Pegasus is a fast horse which is as white as snow with powerful wings. Bellerophon tames this horse and is then able to conquer his enemies from the sky.

The horse, with the worrier Bellerophon, was a matching emblem for the British Paratroopers that operate and battle their enemies from the sky since 1942.

In 2008, the band adopted the name Pegasus Pipes & Drums and the emblem after a close collaboration with the British Parachute Regiment in Normandy, France and the region surrounding Arnhem, the Netherlands. Pegasus Pipes & Drums and the Parachute Regiment still hold on to this close collaboration.
